• TREAS. REPORT: given by Barb for Marge G. Balance on 9/06/06 $803.60 - detail attached. Reimb. to Sally for banner approved. $50 donation to Gayle H. for cool collars material approved with thank you note.
• UPDATES ON SONS/DAUGHTERS:
o Leslie’s son Henry will return to Carson shortly for recruiting position. Youngest son just joined Navy.
o Barbara’s son Patrick just deployed. Mom got to go on ship & watch cast off from dock. Emails rcd.
o Joy’s son Christopher deployed and working long hours. Emails regularly. Loves Mom’s jerky.
o Jeanne’s son Jason discharged home to Reno – will travel as R & R, then finish education/career path.
o Paula’s son Josh was home on leave last month for much enjoyed R & R; back in Afghanistan now.
o Mary’s son Chris at Ft. Bragg; short trips to Kuwait; will be home for Thanksgiving – big family feast.
o Cheryl’s son Matt was in Kuwait heading to Baghdad for one year. Position in camp primarily.
• NEW BUSINESS:
o Officers’/Chairs’ Job Duties and Time Lines handed out to each in draft form to add/delete as developed. VP will co-chair Welcome Comm. doing phone functions. Jeanne will create prospect list. Nominations will be in Nov. Elections follow in December with Secty. and Treas. positions opening.
• COMMITTEE REPORTS:
o Op Postcard: Christmas Holiday Postcard Drive has begun. 4-H will contact chapters through Clover Clips. Members given contact list, sample letter, sample instructions. Notify chair with groups each will contact, update their contact info when postcards are returned (target date 11/14 meeting to allow for shipping), get 4 x 6 cards and sticker supplies to each group as needed. Treas. will reimburse receipts. Leslie will man booth with live remote Am 1300/FM 99.1 at Genoa Candy Dance 9/23,24.
o Welcome/BSM to BSM: See above. Much info shared with guest Jo to support the 593rd BSM prospects.
o Deployment Support: We now have 5 deployed sons and more in the 593rd so please bring 5 items for care packages to next month’s meeting. Existing supplies all issued for deployed at Bowers Picnic.
o Blue to Gold: Paula reported out the positive impact having a Blue to Gold Ceremony had at Bowers Picnic and then the 9/11 Fernley Heroes Wall with American Legion sharing how important Blue Star Moms were and honoring the two Gold Star Moms’ fallen soldiers from that area. Pictures on blog.
• OLD BUSINESS:
o PJ’s Web of Support update given. Invites to joint fund-raiser Pampered Chef Party at Marge’s 10/1 given to all to share with friends and shop online if can’t attend. PJ described Lobby Display for Oct. 20th Air Force Band Concert at Carson Community Center. The City is planning a 5-7pm pre-concert social time with Keva Juice and others who will hopefully contribute to BSM’s and Web of Support. PJ will coordinate with Jo to ensure she has a complete listing of the 593rd for family adoptions. Anyone interested in getting camouflage bracelets imprinted with Defending Our Freedom can email PJ with info and her contact will ship to entire troop. She also has contacts for dog tags for kids.
o In looking at our brief history and wanting to do the Bowers Military Family Picnic annually and then come alongside others in their military support events, we’ll look at creating a Special Events Standing Committee next month.
o Oct. Agenda: Marge prepare projected annual budget with donations commited/out; Veterans Day activities; Special Events Standing Committee, each attendee bring 5 items for deployed.
